Update One

Welcome to the site! I’ll be posting updates here when appropriate and when I feel like it. This is a very important caveat for qualification of an update.

Merch

Yes, merch. For those that have been playing along for a while now you’ll know that I never really had any branding/logo/etc happening. It was a combination of marketing not really being a natural thing for me and not having the time to really sit down and get something I was proud of done. Well I finally decided to bang out a logo so that I could have something to get this site looking cohesive, maybe try to push this thing a little further and merch.

I got some stickers and buttons made recently and I think they came out looking pretty neat. I would like to sell them, maybe on this site, maybe a different location; I haven’t figured out logistics on that front yet. But, they’ll be coming in some way, shape or form.

New Projects

I’ve got a few fairly exciting things in the works:

  • I just sent some PCBs off to OSHPark for fab to build an Analog IR remote for a small robot project I’m working on. I’ll be doing a video on the PCB design for this one since I used some new tricks that I think will be helpful for fellow PCB beginners

  • I did a quick video on a teardown of my calipers that currently have a wrecked screen. I’ve gotten some great leads on how I can possibly repair/replace the screen; which is what I was hoping would happen by sharing what I’ve done so far with them. Updates with that soon.

  • I started kind of a silly/creepy (what a combo) project with the new PyPortal board from Adafruit (can it be a board if it has a screen? it’s basically a standalone module). I’ve wanted to do a Twin Peaks themed project for a while and I had kind of honed in on the Woodsmen from The Return season as a possible avenue since Twin Peaks doesn’t really have props per se to recreate. Right now with the PyPortal I have the classic homecoming picture of Laura Palmer being displayed and then the PyPortal has an IR LED for light sensitivity, so when it senses that it’s dark a picture of one of the Woodsmen comes up and plays the “gotta light?” audio from the show. It’s weird but fun. I think I’ll put it in a picture frame for the housing when it’s all set and of course there will be a video.

I think that about wraps up this update. Until next time..
